Knockendarroch Hotel in Pitlochry has been awarded Scottish Hotel of the Year by The Good Hotel Guide. The result was revealed at a celebratory dinner held at The Arch in London. Owned by Struan and Louise Lothian since 2014, Knockendarroch Hotel offers a contemporary country house style in a quiet elevated position in central Pitlochry. Most of the 14 bedrooms benefit from panoramic views of Pitlochry and the surrounding hills of Highland Perthshire. The hotel has a Visit Scotland 4 Star Gold Award and this year has been awarded several Travellers' Choice Awards for Scotland by Tripadvisor. These include Best Small Hotel, Best Service, Most Romantic Hotel and a Hall of Fame award. The property which dates back to 1880 has a relaxed, cosy style combining traditional tweeds with contemporary touches. This year, Chair of Judges Vivien Devlin was joined on stage by well-known broadcaster Grant Stott, who did an outstanding job of hosting the most important evening in the Scottish hospitality calendar. Born in Edinburgh, Stott has worked in the radio and TV industry for over 27 years as a presenter, more recently moving into theatre and comedy. A superb menu, created by Sheraton executive chef Craig Hart and his team, was enjoyed by all guests and dinnertime entertainment was provided by the well-known pop and soul group Scot Soul and solo vocalist Barbara Bryceland, who became a household name after featuring on both X-Factor and The Voice. The highlight of the evening for The Dunstane Houses was picking up Boutique Hotel of the Year for 2018 – beating off strong competition from Douneside House, East Haugh House Hotel and the Loch Lomond Arms whilst Shirley Mowat took home Independent Hotelier of the Year 2018 – well done Shirley! The evening finished with the presentation the Fellowship for Contribution to the Industry, which was presented to Chef Jeff Bland of The Balmoral Hotel and the highest honour was reserved for Trump Turnberry – A Luxury Collection Resort, which was named Scottish Hotel of the Year 2018.
